my ambient tv fantasy: correction and rant

People's art would be a bad idea to arrange with ambient music on the channel, because then people would associate one with the other. Artists should have complete control of their works.

For the most part, I hate music videos. I don't want the song connected to a specific image. Videos where they are actually playing the song are the best kind. I'd still rather have the music stand alone, unless it's live footage.

If I operated an ambient music channel, I'd set the music to video of the view while driving a car down a freeway or somewhere else. Or stuck in a traffic jam. :) A lot of walking around by yourself. If you'd meet people and go do stuff with them, it'd be too much like a music video for me. I'd try to make it random and detached.

It'd be the most wonderful tv channel ever! Completely perfect if there were no commercials. Nobody constantly trying to get your attention.

Brian Eno is credited with inventing ambient music. It had existed before, but he defined it. My favorite quote from his explanation says, "Ambient Music must be able to accommodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular; it must be as ignorable as it is interesting."

I may rid myself of my television soon. I think I'm almost ready.
