truegrit tagged me for this meme.

The rules: List five songs you currently love. It doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be five songs you are really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the songs, and the artists in your journal. Then tag five other friends to see what they are listening to.

Sonic Youth - Eric's Trip

If you'd like to know what taking a big trip on hallucinogens is like, or just want the experience put into a song, here it is. I also love how SY, MONO, Melt-Banana, and (others?) know how to sometimes channel the influence they got from Merzbow, into their own personal styles. Like in this song.

John Cale - Stainless Steel Gamelan

I can't get over this song. Sterling Morrison and John Cale, playing one guitar, at the same time. Though you wouldn't be able to guess that is what they are playing, if you'd only heard it. Stainless Steel Gamelan is the best description. It all comes back to the mesmerizing harmonies of drone music, for most of my musical tastes.

Melt-Banana - $10 A Pile (Ax Version)

- Disposable Weathercock (Helpful 80 Points Version)

Pure kooky fun. This song starts off with a piano version, of the noise-core song by Melt-Banana. The piano first sounds like a soundtrack to an early, silent black and white film. Then the original song kicks in. A bit later the piano jumps back in, pounding away, just to keep up. It sounds very good together. Just like it does with Disposable Weathercock (Helpful 80 Points Version). Avant-garde jazz crossed with their avant-garde noisecore. To quote a friend, "Melt-Banana is AMAZING!"

Swans - Breathing Water

I'm in love with lush harmonies. Swans seem to use anything they can, to get them. This song is another example, of the Swans full on, orchestral sound. You might get lost trying to pick all the instruments' parts apart. Meanwhile, Gira spins a tale, with his marvelously deep voice, that rattles right through me. This song speaks of trying to control memory, how everything is constantly changing, and how you can never fully understand anything, or anyone. I like to remember that.

So I went one over the said limit. Whatever.
