Writer's Block: Put It On Repeat

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, which one would it be (and why)?

The Swans' double-album 'Soundtracks for the Blind'. There is a great amount of variety on it. Experimental, post-rock, soundscapes, musique concrète, industrial, ambient, drone, minimalism, rock, dance and possibly a few more. Plus The Swans are the greatest anyway.

What is the best in all albums or 12" form The Swans for you (preferably vinyl) this one or… ?

Was all their music released on vinyl? Seriously. I've never even seen 'Soundtracks for the Blind' on vinyl yet.

That doesn't affect my answer to your question though. Their fans often have different preferences. But I'd say you can't go wrong with:

1. Soundtracks for the Blind

2. The Great Annihilator

3. Filth

4. Cop

5. Children of God

6. Young God

Those are all original release titles. Their double compact-disk of B-sides and collection of various out of print works, "Various Failures" is extremely strong too. Don't judge them by just a few albums either. Their styles often varied widely.

Of course they released vinyl. They actually first released vinyls! Check on discogs, you'll see lots of vinyl on their discography page:

Thank you for the great recommendations.

You misunderstood. I asked if all of their music was released on vinyl. For starters, 'Soundtracks for the Blind' has never been.

Aw. I forgot. You should get their live album 'Feel Good Now' on vinyl. Also their last live album 'Swans Are Dead'(another not released on vinyl) is also fantastic. Not that the others aren't good. But out of the three official live releases I've heard(there are four altogether, not counting the live Filth songs), I'd recommend those first.

You're welcome.
